Reporting into the Engineering Operations Manager (EOM), this newly created position will enable the delivery of a high quality, reliable service to passengers, tenants and other customers through effective and efficient maintenance of airport assets. This includes completion of work in accordance with MAG processes & contributing towards the continuous improvement of the maintenance service.

To ensure that our airports and our property portfolio is maintained and developed, our Asset Management team works around the clock to drive asset strategy, capital expenditure planning, engineering services, airport asset development, master planning and capacity planning.

The Role

  • Line management of 5+ terminal technicians including:
    • Managing leave across the team, ensuring minimum staffing levels and minimizing overtime
    • Managing overtime within Stansted Airport process requirements
    • Managing sickness, return to work and absence reviews
    • Developing and mentoring staff, including apprentices
    • Carrying out one to one meetings and performance reviews
    • Performance development staff to ensure technical competencies and continual development
  • Responsible for allocation and prioritisation of work including:
    • Ensure shift planned work is correctly assigned and delivered to a high standard in compliance with statutory requirements and MAG prescribed methods
    • Responsible for allocating and prioritising reactive work across the team (working with planners/technical helpdesk)
    • Ensuring faults found during inspections or maintenance activities are actioned and plans amended
  • Provide technical support/direction to teams to trouble shoot and know when to request Subject Matter Expert or contractor input
  • Undertake continual performance improvement projects as agreed with Line Manager and/or EOM(s)
  • Ensure the team is correctly using maximo and other IT systems, that service reports are completed, and information is provided on the system
  • Responsible for overseeing contractors carrying out planned and reactive works. Request call outs, provide technical information as required, ensure contractors are complying with Stansted Health and Safety standards and reporting requirements
  • Responsible for communicating and liaising with customers/stakeholders on status of jobs and requirements for planned works
  • Fire responder and Approved Person (AP) for Low Voltage/Airfield Ground Lighting electrical, confined space and hot works
  • Proactively self-develop - attend technical and leadership training which may occur on rest days
  • Proactively promote a positive Health & Safety culture including:
  • Undertake start of shift meetings
  • Deliver Tool Box Talks
  • Encourage near miss reporting

Investigate and report on health and safety incidents including:

  • Develop and update risk assessments and method statements
  • Issue permit to work

Take responsibility for an area of the asset, ensuring that maintenance is on track, identify improvements and contributing to future plans


For this role a City and Guilds/Electrical Engineering qualification or relevant experience is required.  The successful candidate will be able to trouble shoot tasks from a technical perspective. You should have previous experience of managing a team or asset area and be focussed on performance improvement. You will be a good communicator and be able to work under pressure in a diverse working environment.  To be successful in this role, you will have a can-do attitude and be able to get the best out of your team delivering outputs to the highest standard.
