Job Description

  • Job Purpose

    The Infrastructure Architect will work as part of a central team of MAG IT architects, defining and designing the IT capabilities that will underpin MAG’s strategic business aims, with initial responsibilities and assignment to STP team. These include ensuring that the STP design and implementation provides IT infrastructure which is flexible enough to support the STP deployments and also future Digital projects, and integrates with MAG business strategies.

    The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing the capabilities required, delivering roadmaps and change plans. Subsequently participating in project governance to ensure STP deliveries remain in line with, and deliver, the roadmap and capabilities.

    Principal Accountabilities

    1. The STP IT infrastructure designs and alignment to the overall architecture
    2. Creating the infrastructure capability roadmap and delivery plan
    3. Create the high- and low-level infrastructure designs specifying SLAs, performance metrics, constraints, security, resilience
    4. Demonstrating that the architecture outputs meet the requirements of the Program and MAG
    5. Design and verification of internal and external IT interfaces
    6. Preparation and review of IT related Change Requests
    7. Witness and commissioning / acceptance of infrastructure testing
    8. Checking and verification of supplier handover and other documentation / drawings
    9. Ensuring STP infrastructure deliverables meet MAG IT standards and technology goals
    10. Setting priorities for IT deployments within the programme limitations such as airport operations, construction timelines and budget
    11. Performing the above across the following components:
    • Global wide area network connectivity, including MPLS
    • LAN, corporate and public Wi-Fi
    • Physical network layer (Switches, routers, firewalls)
    • Servers and Storage
    • Data centres
    • New and existing Airport Operating applications
    • Existing Data Platforms

    Facts and Figures

     

    The MAG network and data centre estate spans five sites within the UK including Manchester Airport and Stansted, and several US satellite sites currently being onboarded. There is a mixture of on-site data centres, and offsite private- and public-cloud environments providing physical and virtual hosting for both MAG and third party managed systems. The objective of the STP programme is to raise passenger capacity of Stansted airport from 34 million passengers per year to 45 passengers per annum

     

    STP will add to the Stansted Airport campus including:

    • A new Arrivals building, to be constructed by Summer 2019
    • Conversion of the existing Terminal building to facilitate departures only by Summer 2021 inclusive of:-
      • Addition of passenger seating, food and beverage areas
      • A new check-in system and reconfiguration of the existing outbound security control areas
    • A new multi-story car-park and addition of 15000 car parking spaces across the campus by Spring 2018
    • 20 new Aircraft Stands and associated infrastructure by Summer 2021
